Using Interactive Learning Simulations
By: Mr. Norman Rios
Using an interactive learning simulation is one of my valuable tools in building significant understanding of a particular science concept in my students. These interactives contain circumspectly-designed questions which address various aspects of the conceptual idea. Most of these have multiple stages classified according to varying areas about the concept or about mastering concepts at shifting degrees of sophistication.
Furthermore, it builds proficiency as it not only offers immediate feedback but also asks parallel questions on missed or wrongly answered items a few more times until the student finally exhibits clear understanding. I utilize these interactive simulations by demonstrating and explaining through it, or splitting my class into breakout groups where they are encouraged to interact, or by simply assigning individual tasks for the students to perform. These teaching and learning tools are particularly more special now that classes have been reduced to Zoom meetings.
